РусскийThe Council of Europe antidiscrimination projects, implemented in the Republic of Moldova, in collaboration with the Coalition for Inclusion and Non-Discrimination (CIN), conducted a working visit to the Faculty of Law at the State University of Moldova. The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for collaboration to promote the principles of equality and non-discrimination in higher education.
During the meeting, participants discussed the phenomenon of hatred in society, which is addressed under the Criminal and Contravention Code, following amendments made by Law 111/2022 through Article 13421. Many graduates from law faculties join law enforcement agencies, where they are responsible for protecting all vulnerable individuals, regardless of personal characteristics or affiliations.
Therefore, it is crucial to provide an inclusive and up-to-date educational framework that meets present needs and fosters non-discriminatory attitudes among future professionals.
The discussions also highlighted the key results and conclusions of the Council of Europe’s project in promoting equality, non-discrimination, and preventing bias-motivated crimes. Approximately 400 police officers from over 40 inspectorates in the Republic of Moldova, along with community mediators, social workers, key actors from local public administration, and NGO representatives from four districts, were trained. In collaboration with the Academy “Stefan cel Mare” and CIN, several key topics on non-discrimination were introduced into the educational program.
Over the 65 years since the founding of the Faculty of Law at the State University, a significant number of justice specialists and intellectuals from the Republic of Moldova have been trained. The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Serghei Brînza, reaffirmed the high level of training provided by the faculty’s teaching staff and the students’ keen interest in the latest legislative changes in the field.
The Council of Europe, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, is preparing the next Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for the period 2025-2028 which is expected to commence in January next year.
The visit is part of the Council of Europe project ”Enhancing diversity and equality in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented in the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2024 and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Council of Europe project ’’Promoting non-discrimination in the Republic of Moldova. The project is being carried out in partnership with the Coalition for Inclusion and Non-Discrimination as part of the initiative “Strengthening support systems for victims of hate crimes in Moldova,” implemented with the support of Millennium Partners.
